What James Allen has done here is awesome and from the heart. "The Six" closed years ago and was subjected to a frontal attack on the senses called Hot Shots. Walked in one time, stood at the railing and felt hot tears rolling down my cheeks. I, too, remember this bar with deep fondness. No matter what was going on in my life, 5 minutes on that dancefloor with one of my gay brothers always turned tears to joy and it's demise was a sad day indeed. What Hot Shots did to the place was a travesty, pure and simple. And they left a mess to clean up that was simply devestating. It took the vision and dedication of one man to pull it back together and, after a mere 3 months, it is grossly unfair for out-of-towners to write trashy reviews like what you see posted here. Wendell "Too Tall" Nelson is back at the microphone every Wednesday evening with his own brand of stand-up comedian dance instructor and the floor fills up just like in the old days. Do us a favor. Stay in Houston or go to Dallas where the general attitude is as rude as you are. Meanwhile, James is the kind of guy who just never stops, never gives up and we won't miss you at all. We know exactly where the stained glass window is. Bought by a very selfish local woman who is still holding it captive in her living room and refuses to return it to its rightful place at any price. Can't be helped, but not from lack of trying. Far from "riding the coat tails" of the golden era, James Allen is doing everything possible to restore The Six to it's original glory with a state-of-the-art sound system and the same everyday drink specials that have become the standard at The Stampede -- also revived (previously The Corral)by the same big-hearted guy. Trouble with City Vending may make it necessary to relocate, rebuild, whatever it takes to get 'r done and you can be sure a solid local crowd will bring the dancers back -- tight Wranglers and all. These things take time. Take your opinions on down the road. One question: Do you know any other bar owner who makes sure their customers have solid food to help offset the threat of DWIs to their customers? Thought not. And by the way -- the music is carefully planned to be a mixture of favorites from the "old days" and the newest and best of today's C/W hit parade. Also, by the way, the problems with gay women who drove the guys east to Dallas are no more. We have a geat bar "of our own" called Best Friends. The gals are welcome at The Six; just content with the local women's bar. Me? I've always "the mascot" at The Six and love The Stampede, too. Watch this space for news about The 651 as we grow and change with the times.

I can't believe what they've done to the place! Looks like somebody is trying something new in there, but not making a change for the better. I am from Houston, and used to go to the 651 back in the day when all the tight-Wrangler wearing cowboy types were out to play, and it was shoulder to shoulder room in there! So many people! Now it looks pretty pathetic. Music is bad too. Drinks cost too much. Rude manager. Weak crowd. What happened to the beautiful stained glass window over the front bar??? I miss the old place and crowd. Fort worth seems to be growing in size as a city, but not at the 651! Where have all the cowboys gone???

This place sucks. and not in the good way. this bar used to be one of my alltime fave gay fave hangouts in texas. it closed for awhile, and re opened as a bar called "hot shots". That was an okay bar on weekends. they had lube wrestling in a moonbounce on the dance floor on some nights. BUT NOW... The new owner is trying to ride the coattails of the old 651 name, but he has created one of the saddest excuses for gay nightlife that I have seen in a very long time. The new decor is terrible and the drinks are all overpriced. the whole place reminds me of a skating rink. Terrible weekly schedule, too. This bar only recently reopened, and I do not think it is long for this world. Same old drunk crowd ft worth is famous for go there when there is even a crowd at all... I long for those good old days of cowboys, TGRA, and friendly bartenders that the old 651 had. Trust me boys, if you want to go out to a decent club/bar, take the extra time to drive over to dallas or even the 1851 in Arlington. If you like lots of drag, and overpriced weak drinks you will love the new "6". Going there is almost as bad as waking up next to a bad trick. Thank you, James Allen for further ruining the dwindling ft worth gay nightscene.
So, what do you say?
